Sonia Nicolson-Gudrúnarson - Architect, Educator, Digital Content Creator (& new Mum) living in Reykjavik, Iceland.

In 2009, a global recession and a desire for a new challenge led Sonia on an adventure to India where she helped set up and run a number of campuses for Raffles Design Institute. Head of BA Interior Architecture, Sonia was quickly promoted to Academic Director and wrote her first research paper (published by IIT Delhi). After many inspiring travels in Asia, including previously a year completing her Masters of Architecture in Japan, she returned to the UK and was welcomed by the Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) as Head of 1st year BA Interior Architectural Design, visiting India with their International Recruitment team and as an academic for the British Council.

Inspired by travel and a love of Architecture, Sonia took her 10+ years of Interior, Architecture and Design education experience and set up Layoutlines.com; a place to inspire, connect and support students and young designers alike.

Since then, Layoutlines has grown and travelled as Sonia followed her heart and relocated to Reykjavik, Iceland where she continues to share her passion - turning it into a full time freelancing career. Layoutlines works as a Creative Hub producing illustrations, photography, videography, courses and workshops, and design projects for private clients and in collaboration with local Icelandic companies including Max Factor, OPI, Sally Hansen, Ísey Skyr, Tiny Viking, Perlan ‘Wonders of Iceland’, ZO.ON Iceland, Hidden Iceland and CCP Games.

A great believer in the art of hand drawing, Sonia launched her online shop of prints and products back in 2014 and continues to add new collections.

Currently living in Iceland with her Viking husband, Ingimar, life changed a lot in June 2018 with the birth of baby Mia. Sonia's day now consists of juggling designing and content creation with feeds, cuddles and naps in her home studio in Reykjavik.
