How To Make Scones + video

Scones are the perfect treat for an afternoon tea, so why not get a batch in the oven and enjoy them with a cuppa this afternoon.

350g self-raising flour
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
85g butter
3 tbsp caster sugar
175ml milk
1 egg

Pour into a mixer your flour, salt, baking powder and mix. Add the butter and then the sugar. Warm the milk for 30 seconds in the microwave. Slowly add in the milk to the mixer.

Dust a surface with some flour to roll the dough onto. Roll the dough until its about 3-4cm think and then cut out the scone shapes.

Beat an egg and lightly glaze the top of each scone. Place scones onto a baking tray and bake in the oven at 220C/fan 200C/gas mark 7 for 10 mins, until slightly golden.

Leave to cool slightly but serve warm with jam and cream.

How do you eat your scones?
